An Ancient Tradition of Women in Circle

Join internationally recognized singer and sound healer Kristina Sophia Powers for an evening rooted in one of humanity's oldest traditions — women gathering in circle through rhythm, voice, and shared expression.

From the cradle of civilization to the present day, the frame drum has brought women together in celebration, ceremony, and community. Its rhythms have carried stories, laughter, prayer, and the simple joy of being fully present.

You don't need musical experience. You don't need to know how to sing. You simply need to come as you are — this circle isn't about perfection, it's about expression, about opening your heart.

The frame drum isn't the destination. It's the doorway.

A Note from Angeles Arrien

When the drum sounds, the boundary between worlds becomes very thin.

Insight · Worth Knowing Anyway

The Drum Was Women's First

Long before the modern image of a drum circle, this instrument had a very specific place in women's hands.

01

Depicted for Millennia

Frame drums appear in Sumerian and Mesopotamian art dating back over 4,000 years, making them among the oldest instruments still played in something close to their original form.

02

Historically a Women's Instrument

Across many ancient Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cultures, the frame drum was played predominantly by women in ceremony and celebration — a history largely erased from the modern, male-dominated image of drumming.

03

Rhythm Syncs Bodies

Group drumming produces measurable rhythmic entrainment between participants — heart rates and breathing patterns can actually begin to synchronize, which may be part of why a room of strangers can start to feel like one body.

Testimonials

Voices from the Room

I was nervous I'd be the only one who couldn't keep rhythm. Nobody was judging — we just found our way together as a group.
Simone R.
Kristina's voice filled the whole room. I left with chills and a full heart.
Bethany C.
This felt like something ancient and something brand new at the same time. I'll be back every month.
